Abstract:
The 2021 Tajogaite eruption at Cumbre Vieja (La Palma, Canary Islands) was a prolonged hybrid event combining effusive and Strombolian activity over 85 days. We present rock magnetic characterizations of volcanic ash and lapilli from three tephra sections spanning the full eruption sequence. Progressive changes in titanomagnetite composition, grain size, and coercivity track systematic shifts up-section, suggesting rock magnetic properties may serve as independent stratigraphic correlation tools. We discuss what drives these changes and whether they reflect magmatic evolution, eruptive processes, or both.
All are welcome.
